HOW MANY COUNTRIES IN THE WORLD?
If you were to ask ten people how many countries are in the world, you would probably hear ten different answers in January 2024.
WORLD ATLAS states there are (195) countries in the world: 193 belongs to the United Nations (UN) + 2 non-member observer states: the Holy See (Vatican) + State of Palestine, Read their article here for the COMPLICATIONS of the definition of country or sovereign state.
Another answer from TRAVELER'S CENTURY CLUB (TCC), an organization for travelers who have visited 100 and more of the world's countries & territories*, listed a TOTAL OF (330) WORLD'S COUNTRIES & TERRITORIES* as of January 2022. Although some are not actually countries in their own right, they have been included because they are removed from the parent country.

TRAVELꕤGAL is using TCC list of world's (330) COUNTRIES and TERRITORIES for TRAVEL BUG QUEST© 💯 country count. Established since 1954, TCC have curated a list with a widespread recognition as the standard of countries and territories that are of significant interest, as distinct destinations, to serious travelers.
For this tally, as an example:
Hawaii, a state in USA, scores (+1) point; while, (mainland) USA, counts as another (+1) point, for a total of (2) countries* visited.

Simply, put there is NO cure when bitten by the travel bug.
How long does it last?
Once you get it that’s the end. There is no turning back and no way to get rid of it. It’s simply FOREVER!
You will have to learn to live with it as I and many others who are bitten by the bug.
